It would chew fuses and output tubes when pushed and a quick troubleshoot discovered that the builder wired up the primaries wrong. Since getting the Metro, it had some issues. It has all the woody characteristics of a great plexi / JMP amp and sounds tight and clear. (Although there was one aspect to the original that I didn't like, which I will discuss below).Ī fellow forumite and tone hound Reubster successfully finished a version of the Blue channel earlier this year, which provided the inspiration for this build. ![]() Rather than the traditional 2203 / JCM800 Lo input style of bypassing the first triode and the guitar signal hitting a coldly biased first stage, in plexi mode the amp is largely a true plexi. Now, the circuit is essentially a well tuned plexi and, IMO, an improved 2203 style preamp. All the good things Plexi are there and the Blue mode can go from a hot-ish plexi to a fire breathing 3 gain stage monster.
